Travel Tuesday: There’s Always Time For Cricket

Travel Tuesday, a game of cricket in an Indian alleyway

Welcome to a new Travel Tuesday!

If you travel India, you’ll realize one thing: there is ALWAYS time for cricket!

#TravelTuesday with

It doesn’t matter where you are, what time it is – although Sunday’s are best, or why you have something else better to do – there’s always time for a game of cricket.

Today’s Travel Tuesday image is one I find to be truly beautiful. I love the depth and contrast, the gloomy sky, and the innocence of a back alley game being played in the old city.

I snapped this photo out of a bus window (seeing a trend?) on a city tour. It was my first day in India, and I was a solo traveller. I met a young pediatrician from Fiji in my hotel who came to town to meet her guru, and she invited me on this bus tour.

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea where we went or the history behind the places. The tour was held in Marathi and at that time, I didn’t even know a lick of Hindi. I didn’t even know what that Marathi was a language.

At this part of the trip, we were visiting a historic well in one of the older parts of the city. Unfortunately, that is the most that I can tell you. I don’t know much about the tour – but I know my photographs from that day are some of my favorite. I caught so many candid seconds of everyday life, just joyful, unknown photographs.

To this day, anytime I see pickup games of cricket in abandoned gardens or empty parking lots, I smile. It really is a simple activity that seems to unite India. India is a massive country of hundreds, if not thousands, of languages, cultures, and tribes. If you don’t think it’s possible for one country to come together over a game, wait until the next England or Australia vs. India cricket match. You’ll see what I’m talking about, and chances are, you’ll walk away with a giggle of your own.

I find baseball somewhat similar to cricket, but cricket requires more patience

Cricket seems to be lot of fun when one take time to sit down to watch it or better still join in a cricket game.

Nice that these people still have the time to play this game despite of the technology today.
